The latest development in moxibustion is the Japanese MOXSAFE. As the name indicates, this method of moxibustion is safe and smoke free. MOXSAFE comprises of a stainless steel carrier upon which sits a ring of coal. MOXSAFE is placed onto a metal needle and ignited with a lighter. The warmth is then transmitted through the needle into the skin with pinpoint accuracy. The coal burns for exactly 6 minutes. There is no risk of burning as the ashes remain safely on the moxa carrier. Once cooled, the MOXSAFE is removed and disposed together with the metal needle. MOXSAFE is a safe and precise method of moxibustion for therapists and patients.
